How Dialectical Consensus Works

Select a question to see the discussion. The perspective which has earned the most Insights is shown first as the consensus.

To participate, share your own perspective.

Find a perspective you disagree with and reply.

To gain an Insight, you will need to edit your perspective and have the other person accept your changes.

When you have both edited your perspectives, you each gain one Insight for your perspective. The conversation a win-win game.

You can only gain up to 3 insights from one person, so you will need to talk to different people.

If you agree with someone, you can share half of your insights with them. This way, every Insight is put to use.

Dialectical Consensus works by creating an incentive structure in which open-minded cooperation is beneficial to the individual.

In a typical conversation on social media, you gain nothing by changing your own point of view. Standard online conversations have the incentive structure of political theater. The most effective strategy to advocate for your perspective is to convince observers that you're in some way superior to the person you're arguing against, gaining more likes or votes than your opponent.

Here, Insights cannot be earned by petty popularity. You can only gain them by deepening your perspective through reconciliation with someone you disagree with. This reveals a deeper unity of interests.

Sharing your Insights creates a network of cooperation that develops over time. Every two weeks in a public discussion, the perspective with the most Insights supporting it is automatically selected as the consensus.
